Jim Blomfield (piano/keyboards), Roshan ‘Tosh’ Wijetunge (bass) and Mark Whitlam (drums) are three individual voices whose past collaborations read like a who’s-who of the UK jazz scene. The dynamic level of organic interplay evident in realising Jim's original and intricate contemporary compositions is testament to an experienced trio who know each other’s playing intimately - a quality that has also been so compelling and captivating both on record and for audiences during their live performances.

“For fans of current post-EST piano trio jazz who might be looking for that little bit extra from a now heavily subscribed format, Jim Blomfield could well be the answer” (Selwyn Harris – Jazzwise magazine)

New Jim Blomfield Trio album 'Strange Beauty (Every Way OK)' released on Pig records

Featuring eight full length Blomfield compositions, three soundscape ‘vignettes’ and an arrangement of a Robert Schumann classical piano piece, the new album draws upon influences arising from electronica, rock and prog-rock as much as it does from the jazz legacy.

Mixed and produced by ‘Tosh’ Wijetunge and co-produced by Jim Blomfield, the album contains both ‘as is’ recorded trio takes in the studio as well as compositions reworked or created during the post production process - the sound design, programming, overdubs and samples on these tracks becoming an integral part of the composition process.

Overall the resulting sonic palette of the trio’s new release is one full of light and shade and is a fascinating listening journey full of ever changing colours and resonances.

'Waveforms and Sea Changes' also available on Pig Records

The trio's critically acclaimed debut album - “I suspect this new trio album will come as a revelation to many listeners, for it is absolutely superb, and puts Blomfield on a new level as an outstanding soloist.” (John Watson – jazzcamera.co.uk)
